What do assessment cycle deadline dates actually do?

Overview

Assessment cycle deadline dates in Pando are for sending automated reminder notifications. They do not automatically close, submit, or lock any assessments.

What deadlines do

When you set a Self-Assessment Deadline, Manager Draft Deadline, or Final Deadline, Pando uses those dates to:

  • Trigger automated reminder emails, in-app notifications, and Slack notifications (if you have notifications enabled for that stage)

  • Give your team a shared target date to work toward

What deadlines do not do

No assessment is ever automatically closed or submitted when a deadline passes. A deadline passing does not:

  • Lock an employee out of their self-assessment

  • Auto-submit an incomplete manager review

  • Close or finalize the cycle

  • Change the status of any assessment in the tracker

Assessments remain open and editable until a manager manually submits and finalizes their review β€” or until you manually close the cycle or an individual assessment.

Common scenario

"The self-assessment deadline passed β€” is my employee's assessment closed?"

No. If an employee hasn't submitted their self-assessment, their access is unchanged. They can still go in and complete it. You can send them a manual nudge (Admin > Employees > Email > Complete Unfinished Assessment) or rely on automated reminders to prompt them.

Closing the cycle

When you're ready to wrap up, go to Admin > Cycles and click Complete Cycle. Any assessments that weren't finalized at that point will be marked as "Closed" (incomplete) β€” their ratings will not be applied to the employee's profile.

Important: If your cycle end date hasn't passed yet, you won't see the Complete Cycle button. To close the cycle early, click the edit pencil and remove or change the end date first.
