Overview
Aspen integrates with Slack to deliver notifications for feedback, achievements, pulse check-ins, and more — directly in your team workspace. This guide walks admins through connecting a Slack workspace and configuring channel access.
Admin required. Only users with the Admin role in Aspen can connect a Slack workspace.
Before You Begin
Make sure you have:
Admin access in your Aspen organization
Permission to install apps in your Slack workspace (Slack workspace owner or admin, or approval from your Slack admin)
Connect Your Slack Workspace
Step 1: Log in to Aspen and open the sidebar.
Step 2: Navigate to Settings > Integrations.
Step 3: Locate the Slack Workspace section and select Connect Slack.
Note: @Aspen uses an AI language model to generate responses in Slack. Verify information independently where appropriate.
Step 4: You will be redirected to Slack. Review the permissions Aspen is requesting, then select Allow.
Step 5: You will be redirected back to the Aspen Integrations page. A Connected status badge confirms the link was successful.
Step 6: In Slack, open Apps in the left sidebar. You should see a welcome message from @Aspen confirming the bot is active.
Configure Channel Access (Optional)
By default, @Aspen responds only to direct messages. To enable @Aspen in specific channels:
Step 1: On the Integrations page, select Configure Channels.
Step 2: Browse or search your channels and select where @Aspen should be active.
Public channels are joined automatically.
For private channels, invite the bot manually in Slack using
/invite @Aspen.
Step 3: Select Save Changes.
What Gets Sent to Slack
Once connected, team members receive Slack notifications for:
Feedback — new feedback received or requested
Achievements — logged achievements and recognitions
Pulse check-ins — scheduled pulse questions
1:1 prep briefings — manager briefings when ready
Uplevels and assessments — progress updates and review activity
Each notification includes a View in Aspen link.
Disconnect Slack
Step 1: Go to Settings > Integrations.
Step 2: Select Disconnect Slack.
Step 3: Confirm in the dialog. The @Aspen bot is deactivated in Slack.
Your Aspen data and employee history are not affected. You can reconnect the same workspace at any time, but channel access settings will need to be reconfigured.
Troubleshooting
