After receiving a promotion, the most important thing to do is obvious: celebrate! You’ve done a lot of work to get to this place so you deserve to relax and enjoy your success.

You may feel a bit overwhelmed or lost when you arrive at a new career level. That’s why we pulled together our top tips to help you get started on the right foot and keep progressing. Plus, we’ve done some research and compiled a list of resources for you to explore. You got this!

Start slowly

Even though you may have an impulse to jump right in and prove to yourself, it’s essential to take time to understand team dynamics at this level, new expectations, and your expanded responsibilities. Sometimes it's better to go slow at first, so you can go fast later.

Write down your goals

Being goal-oriented will help you get a clear picture and clarify what success will look like for you at this new level. Documenting your goals is a tried and true way of planning for success.

Ask for help

Don’t be afraid! No one expects you to do everything perfectly on day one. Ask your peers and your manager for support when you need to – it demonstrates your engagement and enthusiasm for your new position.

Target some easy wins

Take actions right away that will help you easily demonstrate your abilities. This will help you feel more confident and gain some momentum.

Get feedback early

Don’t wait to request feedback from your peers and manager. Quality feedback will give you ideas and strategies for improvement that will save you time and energy and keep you growing.

Exude humble confidence

You’re in a new paradigm, so you’ll want to be increasingly professional, collaborative, and respectful. Take the confidence you’ve gained from your promotion and wear it happily yet humbly.
